Dr. Judy Cameron, from the University of Pittsburgh and Scientific Research Council, describes how behavioural development proceeds as various systems in the brain mature. This is a two-way interaction such that behaviours occurring early in life influence brain development and help determine which neural circuits will become well established in a child’s brain. Thus, early experiences play a key role in the development of children's brains as well as their behaviors.
