Stress, Resilience, Brain Architecture
July 2011
The quality of a child`s caregiver relationships helps determine his or her ability to regulate stress throughout life. Children raised in stable, nurturing environments develop level brains that react with resilience and equanimity to stressful situations. Children whose brains develop in the presence of abuse or neglect, unmitigated by attentive relationships, develop brain architecture with unbalanced or maladaptive stress responses.
