Resilience is the ability to adapt and remain healthy in the face of adversity and can be strengthened or weakened over time in response to our experiences. The Resilience Scale tool developed by the Alberta Family Wellness Initiative helps to illustrate how three factors interact to determine resilience: adversities, positive supports, and acquired skills and abilities.
About the training
This free training resource is offered in partnership with — and is hosted by — the Canadian Police Knowledge Network (CPKN).
The course includes a 90-minute Resilience Scale training video, a simulation activity designed specifically for law enforcement and public safety personnel, reflective questions, and a powerful personal account from Superintendent Mike McCauley of the Alberta RCMP, who shares his experiences through the lens of the Resilience Scale.

- Visualize a person’s current level of resilience
- Identify programs or services that can help strengthen a person’s resilience.
