Dr. Harriet MacMillan, from the Offord Centre for Child Studies, McMaster University, provides an overview of the scientific background behind child maltreatment and impairment. She follows up with a discussion of prevention programs for child maltreatment and programs to prevent its recurrence. Dr. MacMillan proposes the Nurse Family Partnership Program as a particularly successful U.S.-based program that should be implemented in Canada to prevent physical abuse.
