Dr. Michael Kaufmann (Ontario Medical Association) shares his insight into chronic disease management principles as they relate to physician addiction and treatment programs. Dr. Kaufmann shares long-term treatment data that shows the relapse rate for doctors is much lower than the general population. He believes the main reason doctors who complete a physician health program have low relapse rates and high life satisfaction is the ongoing monitoring and support. He concludes treatment programs for the general population would benefit from incorporating ongoing monitoring components.
