Telling Science Stories

Air Traffic Control, Social Policy, Framing Metaphor, Brain Architecture

FrameWorks Institute, June 2010

The FrameWorks Institute summarizes its work with the Harvard Center on the Developing Child, in which scientific research is translated into metaphorical frames that are tangible to the general public. Science on child development is simplified into models such as "serve and return" as metaphor for child-caregiver interaction and "air traffic control" as a metaphor for executive function. The goal is to better communicate science to the public and, ultimately, impact policy making.
