Dr. Harriet MacMillan, from McMaster University, is a pediatrician and psychiatrist with a major research interest in children’s and women’s mental health, and Aboriginal health generally. She is the inaugural holder of the David R. (Dan) Offord Chair in Child Studies. Her research activities include investigation of the epidemiology of violence against women and children as well as evaluation of interventions aimed at prevention of child maltreatment and violence against women. Dr. MacMillan’s research activities overlap with her clinical activities which include being a member of the Child Advocacy and Assessment Program (CAAP) at McMaster Children’s Hospital. This multidisciplinary program aims, through research, teaching and clinical activities, to reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with child maltreatment.
